Since March 2008 the community creche has become part of this project. Due to lack of funding and resources this community building which could be a great asset to the community was in fact the complete opposite - suffering from severe neglect and disrepair it was actually acting as a health hazard. Many children using the building were developing breathing problems and skin conditions due to the state of the building and pockets of Dengue Mosquitoes (that cause fatalities especially in young children)were found in the building.
Desde março de 2008 a creche comunitária tornou-se parte deste projeto. Devido à falta de fundos e recursos aquela instituição da comunidade que poderia ser um grande trunfo para a favela foi, de fato, o contrário - sofrendo de grave negligência e degradação até tornar-se um risco para a saúde. Muitas crianças, usuárias da creche, estavam desenvolvendo problemas respiratórios e de pele devido às condições do edifício e focos de mosquitos da Dengue (que causam mortes especialmente em crianças jovens) foram encontrados no local.
The Community Residents approached REDEH/ CEMINA to ask for help in turning this situation around. The first step was a renovation program that brought the building to a basic habitable and usable level, the second a training program for the creche workers in the essentials of childcare. This has brought the creche to a basic level but there is still a big requirement for development of the building and the services it offers to the community.
Os moradores procuraram a REDEH em busca de ajuda para contornar aquela situação. O primeiro passo foi a reforma que desse àquele prédio condições básicas de habitação e uso. Em seguida, um programa de treinamento para atendentes de creche com noções e cuidados essenciais para o trato com crianças.
Isto trouxe a Creche Caçula para um nível básico de qualidade, mas há ainda um grande caminho para a melhoria daquele prédio e dos serviços que são oferecidos à comunidade.
The next step will be to develop partnerships that will ensure the development and sustainability of the creche, training and development for creche employees so that they can take a proactive role in the development of the creche and and overhaul of the services that the creche offers to the community in terms of the daycare and nutrition.
O próximo passo é desenvolver parcerias que assegurarão o desenvolvimento e a sustentabilidade da Creche e a formação e o desenvolvimento dos coordenadores e atendentes daquela instituição, para que possam assumir um papel proativo no seu desenvolvimento. Também buscar a revisão geral dos serviços que a creche oferece para a comunidade em termos de cuidados diários e nutrição.
